Cant edit block in drawing?? AcDbBlockTableRecord problem

Cant edit block in drawing?? AcDbBlockTableRecord problem

(OP)

Trying to edit block in current drawing using edit block or xref on refedit toolbar

Error message I receive:
"Errors found in references to other objects: Application reference missing: ACAD, to AcDbBlockTableRecord"

Is there a way to fix the record so that editing the block can once again be possible without having to burst or explode

RE: Cant edit block in drawing?? AcDbBlockTableRecord problem

First, the basics. Have you tried an AUDIT yet?

RE: Cant edit block in drawing?? AcDbBlockTableRecord problem

(OP)

Yes, I tried audit and recover.  While there were errors when I did that, it didnt solve the issue.

RE: Cant edit block in drawing?? AcDbBlockTableRecord problem

From Autodesk...

Error: Application reference missing: ACAD, to AcDbBlockTableRecord

Published date: 2002-09-09
ID: TS74903

Applies to:
AutoCAD® 2002
AutoCAD® 2000i
AutoCAD® 2000
Issue

When you try to Reference Edit a block or externally referenced file, the following error is displayed on the command line:

Application reference missing: ACAD, to AcDbBlockTableRecord
Solution

This error is caused by dimension overrides on dimensions or leaders in which the variable DIMBLK or DIMLDRBLK has been overriden.

To work around this problem, remove the dimension override in the block or externally referenced file before using the REFEDIT command.

I feel quite silly for not going to the Autodesk knowledge base, which is what I normally do, brain freeze.  Thanks, but I am sad to report it didnt solve the issue.

dimblk & dimldrblk both ask for new value or type "." for default.  "." is system default so, I am not sure if that eliminates the override?  There is a cad command that is ovverrride (which doesnt affect the current dimstyle, only asscociative dims you select, so I know that isnt it.

So how do I know the ovverride is off, because I am still getting the error.  Thanks.

Can anyone elaborate on this or have any ideas?

RE: Cant edit block in drawing?? AcDbBlockTableRecord problem

(OP)

borgunit, can you elaborate on the advice you gave?  Not sure if I enter "." if that eliminates the override?  I am still getting the error.  Maybe I am missing a step.

RE: Cant edit block in drawing?? AcDbBlockTableRecord problem

bErEsTh,

While in the DIM command, type "up" or "update" - no quotes and select your offending dimension, (or all of them) and then save the drawing.  This should eliminate your problem.

Ok Im going nuts.  I know this has got to be easier than this.
So far I have
-entered dimldrblk and defaulted back to " "
-entered dimblk and defaulted back to " "
-entered DIM command and then up, said to select objects, I did.
-I still get the error.  What am I doing wrong??
Thanks

RE: Cant edit block in drawing?? AcDbBlockTableRecord problem

Can you shoot a copy of your drawing (with xrefs) to me, I'll take a look and see if I can fix it...

I have to check if thats Ok.  Since they are client drawings, I want to make sure I am not violating any rules.  It isnt a sensitive project, so it should be ok.  I will get back to you shortly.  I apprecite it.

RE: Cant edit block in drawing?? AcDbBlockTableRecord problem

You may have to restore the arrowheads in a dimension style to a AutoCAD default one (if you are not using an AutoCAD one already). You can do this in the dimension style dialog, but then you will need to find the offending block that might contain the user arrowhead and edit the block (explode probably). This restores it automatically but you will need to rebuild the block. This is one possible scenario.
